Aurosys Legacy System Conversion procedure

It is client specific; still it normally comprises the following steps:

Initial analysis step allows sufficient understanding of the original application functionality.
Functional decomposition of the original application. Examples of the defined functional components are screens, reports, etc.
Selection of the defined functional components, which should be ported to the new application. This step may require extensive discussion and agreement with the customer.
Development of the system conversion specification. This comprehensive document in particular indicates change requirements to the original functionality and new required features.
Development of proper data conversion mechanisms allows identification of and resolution of data inconsistency problems.

The range of the migration can vary from porting of legacy application software (3GL code, user-interface and middleware), database conversion to web-enabling or turnkey migration to a new operating system or platform.

AuroSys has web-enabled a lot of the legacy OLTP applications like replacing the middleware by a J2EE or Windows compliant application server and redesign the user interface with OO (.Net Apps, Java, VB or C++ etc.), making the application accessible for enterprise application integration and e-business.

AuroSys has an outstanding experience with COBOL migration services and well seasoned tools designed to reengineer and migrate MVS and DOS environments, CICS, VSAM, DB2, DL1, IMS, IDMS, including IDMS-DC and ADS-O, GENER/OL and UFO. We also have clients who opted for migrating some combination of these environments to alternative platforms; others elected to remain in their original environment, eliminating for example DL1/IMS or IDMS in favor of DB2, or GENER/OL in favor of CICS.
